Here is what I know about college camps in general
I am somewhat familiar with the college baseball camps, which I think is similar to the VT baseball camp and I suspect the VT softball camp.
First of all, The camps are fairly expensive ($250 or more for a one day camp). That is in addition to travel and lodging. There are many campers and the camp time is short. All of the campers get some individual instruction (more like tips) and group instrustion. The coaches and some players are there. The best players will have a chance of getting noticed, and the coaches may contact them later. It is said that the camp profits are frequently used to suppliment the assistant coaches compensation.
The camps are open to anyone who pays the fee as long as the camp is not full. It is well organized, and an effort is mde to keep the campers safe.
I would say to go to one camp, and see of you and your daughter think that it is worthwhile. Some parents spend a fortune sending their kids several camps persuing the dream. Either the kid has high level talent or they don't. The camp is not going to change that.
In my opinion, private lessons from a competent local coach is money better spent for most young players. The main thing is to develop the player before trying to put them in front of college coaches. You can best get an honest evaluation from local coach. My grandson got a D-1 baseball scholarship when his local coach saw the talent in him and contacted some D-1 baseball coaches.
